Post-Festive Season: Getting Back in Shape!

Are you feeling slightly ill, tired and bloated during the first week of January? That’s most probably because you’ve gone a little off the rails during the holiday and festive season by binge eating or over-drinking and partying till morning.

If you’ve been overdoing it during the festive and holiday season and are dealing with the aftermath, you should get back on track as soon as possible. Try to stick to a healthy routine to shed those extra pounds which you’ve accumulated after over-indulging on those lavish family meals.

Here are a few tips to help get you started:

• Healthy and Scheduled Meals

After numerous festive and holiday excesses which may have upset your stomach or left you feeling bloated, you should now opt for some lighter and healthier foods. Cut down on unnecessary snacks and choose fruits, vegetables and nuts.
Start your day with a healthy breakfast and eat smaller meals every 3 to 4 hours each day to boost your metabolism and thus lose weight faster.

• Drink Water Without Moderation

You should definitely reduce your sugar intake from juices and soda and quench your thirst with water. You can also substitute your sweetened beverages with herbal or flavoured green teas. Drinking plenty of water removes excess sodium from the body which then helps you to de-bloat quickly. It also curbs your appetite and suppresses your cravings, thus helping you to lose more weight.

• Get Fit Your Way

If you haven’t been exercising for a while, you should try to incorporate some physical activity in your daily schedule as it will restore balance and energy in your life. If you prefer to work out in groups, you can join a Zumba class or get a gym membership. If you love the outdoors, you can alternate between running and jogging outside for at least 20 minutes. You can also exercise at home at your own pace if you are an indoor person. Exercising will make you feel more energetic and help you get into shape.

• Quit Smoking For Good

Starting a New Year usually means to set new goals and resolutions. If you smoke, maybe it’s time your consider quitting smoking for good. Freeing yourself from smoking is one of the best things that you can do for yourself as it will improve your well-being and vitality. As soon as you stop puffing on cigarettes, your body will repair itself and you will be less prone to diseases.

• Stick To a Bedtime Routine

If you have been acting like a night owl during the festive season and depriving yourself from sleep, you should now develop a bedtime routine. You can start by setting a curfew and restricting your use of digital devices right before going to sleep. Try to relax and meditate before hitting the sack as this will help you unwind and improve the quality of your sleep. Getting a good night’s sleep will make you feel more rested and ready to take on the new challenges of this New Year.
